Inter-provincial arms smuggler arrested in Peshawar raid

PESHAWAR
Police foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal weapons and arrested an inter-provincial arms trafficker during an operation on GT Road near Lahore Adda, officials said on Thursday.
The operation was carried out on the instructions of SP Faqirabad Division Resham Jahangir, under the supervision of DSP Gulbahar Circle Ehsan Marwat Khan. SHO Gulbahar police station Adnan Afzal and other personnel conducted snap checking and targeted action on intelligence input.
During the operation, police recovered 20 rifles, 40 magazines and the vehicle used for smuggling.
Police said the arrested suspect, identified as Abdul Hayat, a resident of Bara tehsil in Khyber district, was part of an inter-provincial arms smuggling network and was attempting to transport weapons in a vehicle.
Officials said the accused was apprehended following secret information, and preliminary interrogation indicated his involvement in arms trafficking across provinces. A case has been registered and further investigation was underway.
