Minister reviews Sanam Dam project, directs acceleration of formalities

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on the proposed Sanam Dam project in Lower Dir and directed authorities to expedite all procedural requirements for its timely execution.
The meeting was held at the Irrigation Department and was attended by Adviser to the Chief Minister on Industries and Commerce Muhammad Humayun Khan, senior officials of the Irrigation Department, a handout said.
Officials briefed the minister on the current status of the project, including technical aspects, administrative progress and upcoming implementation stages. The forum was informed that the project has been placed on the agenda for approval by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), after which construction work will formally begin.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khan stressed the need for speeding up all technical and administrative processes to ensure timely commencement of work. He said the provincial government was committed to prioritising public welfare and development projects and would not tolerate unnecessary delays or negligence.
The minister said the Sanam Dam would play an important role in promoting agricultural development, meeting irrigation needs and strengthening the local economy in Lower Dir and adjoining areas. He added that the project would enhance water storage capacity and improve efficient utilisation of water resources, ultimately benefiting local communities.
Mr Khan said the provincial government was taking practical steps for the conservation and sustainable management of water resources, adding that strengthening water infrastructure remained a key priority of the development agenda.
He directed the concerned authorities to closely monitor all stages of the project and ensure completion within the stipulated timeframe and according to prescribed standards.
