Pakistan joins global Apparel & Textile Transformation Initiative

LAHORE
The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has formally committed to establishing the Pakistan National Chapter of the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI), a global manufacturer-led platform jointly established by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF).
With this commitment, Pakistan becomes the third country to join ATTI, following Bangladesh and Türkiye, further strengthening its role in advancing sustainability, decarbonisation, and responsible manufacturing within the global apparel and textile industry.
The announcement was made during London Climate Action Week 2026, where industry leaders, brands, manufacturers, investors, and development partners gathered to discuss climate finance and sustainable transformation of the apparel sector.
PRGMEA has a long-standing relationship with the International Apparel Federation (IAF). In 2019, PRGMEA successfully hosted the IAF World Fashion Convention in Lahore, bringing together global apparel industry leaders. Furthermore, Mr. Ijaz A. Khokhar, former Chairman PRGMEA, currently serves as a Board Member of the International Apparel Federation (IAF), reflecting Pakistan’s active contribution to shaping the future of the global apparel industry.
Under this collaboration, PRGMEA and ATTI will work together to develop a Pakistan Transformation Plan focused on decarbonisation, energy efficiency, water stewardship, climate finance, resource efficiency, and sustainable manufacturing practices. The initiative aims to provide practical solutions and technical support to manufacturers, particularly SMEs, while enhancing the international competitiveness of Pakistan’s apparel sector.
The announcement was further highlighted during the panel discussion, “Financing Transformation in the Global Apparel and Textile Sector,” featuring distinguished speakers including Vidya Khan (Vice President, BGMEA), Fernando de Buenes (Inditex), Mark Newbold (Primark), and Dr. Muhammad Ayyaz Uddin (Head of Decarbonisation Committee, PRGMEA), alongside representatives from ATTI, British International Investment (BII), brands, manufacturers, and financial institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Ayyaz Uddin, Convener, Decarbonisation Committee, PRGMEA, said that joining ATTI marks an important milestone for Pakistan’s apparel industry and will accelerate sustainability, decarbonisation, and industry-wide collaboration while supporting manufacturers in meeting evolving global market requirements.
Mr. Imran Salahuddin, Chairman (North Zone), PRGMEA, added that the establishment of ATTI Pakistan is a significant milestone for our apparel industry. This partnership will strengthen the competitiveness of Pakistan’s manufacturers, particularly SMEs, by promoting sustainable manufacturing, innovation, and practical decarbonisation solutions. We are confident that this collaboration will enhance Pakistan’s position as a trusted and preferred sourcing destination in the global apparel market.
The establishment of ATTI Pakistan is expected to strengthen collaboration among manufacturers, global brands, investors, and development partners while facilitating access to technical expertise, climate finance, and innovative solutions to support the long-term transformation and competitiveness of Pakistan’s apparel and textile sector.
