PPP asks KP govt to focus on worsening law and order

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have urged the provincial government to focus on the worsening law and order situation instead of engaging in political rhetoric, saying the government must fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Speaking to the media at the Peshawar Press Club, PPP parliamentary leader in the KP Assembly Ahmad Kundi, lawmakers and former MNA Dr Haider Ali Khan criticised Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s remarks at a recent provincial cabinet meeting.
Mr Kundi said the provincial government should explain its performance on security and governance amid what he described as an increase in incidents of terrorism and unrest in the province.
He said the chief minister should explain, before criticising the PPP, what the party had done for the constitutional and financial rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including its role in securing an additional share for the terrorism-affected province under the National Finance Commission (NFC).
The PPP leader said his party had struggled for the rights of the province, while the present provincial government, according to him, had failed to provide adequate security to the people.
He said the governor’s briefing on the law and order situation was a serious matter concerning the lives and property of citizens and should not be given a political colour.
The PPP leaders described the security situation in the province as concerning and called upon the provincial government to take practical measures to restore peace.
They said the chief minister should account for his government’s performance instead of engaging in political accusations, adding that confrontation with the federal government and political statements would not eliminate terrorism.
They maintained that protecting the lives and property of citizens and maintaining peace in the province were among the primary responsibilities of the provincial government.
