PDMA Issues monsoon alert for KP as rains forecast from July 1

PESHAWAR
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert for the first spell of monsoon rains, warning of heavy downpours, strong winds, and thunderstorms across most districts from July 1 to 5.
According to the PDMA advisory released here on Monday on, upper districts face a high risk of landslides and flash flooding in local streams. Urban flooding is also likely in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swat, and Abbottabad due to intense rainfall.
The authority has directed district administrations to complete all precautionary measures in advance. Rescue teams, machinery, and emergency services have been instructed to remain on high alert throughout the spell.
PDMA warned that strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures, solar panels, and standing crops. Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay away from rivers and nullahs. Farmers and livestock owners have also been urged to take preventive steps to protect crops and animals.
The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Centre is fully functional. Citizens can report any untoward incident on the helpline 1700, a PDMA spokesperson said.
