Jail rules violated in Imran’s hospital shift: Shafi

PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has strongly criticised the transfer of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan to PIMS Hospital during the night, alleging that the Punjab government had repeatedly violated jail rules and the jail manual.
In a statement, the minister said Imran Khan was shifted to hospital “under cover of darkness” without informing his family or personal physicians, calling the move highly regrettable. He maintained that transferring any prisoner outside jail premises after evening hours constitutes a clear violation of the jail manual. Shafi Jan questioned why the federal and Punjab governments were not sharing transparent information regarding Imran Khan’s health with the public and his family, and alleged that both governments had “crossed all limits of oppression” by restricting meetings and keeping him in solitary confinement for the past seven months.
He said allowing family members to meet Imran Khan was a fundamental constitutional and legal right, adding that any further denial of this right was unacceptable.
Referring to past cases, he said Nawaz Sharif had been granted relief on medical grounds, while Maryam Nawaz was given bail to care for her father. He further alleged that “Form-47 rulers,” despite seeking medical treatment abroad for minor illnesses, were refusing to shift Imran Khan to Al-Shifa Eye Hospital for proper treatment of his eye condition.
The minister also claimed that Imran Khan was being taken to a hospital without a retina specialist, raising concerns over adequacy of treatment. He termed the situation discriminatory and a violation of the Constitution, law, and fundamental human rights.
Shafi Jan demanded that Imran Khan be immediately shifted to Al-Shifa Eye Hospital in line with his family’s wishes and that all details of his medical condition and treatment be made public without delay.
