Engr. Anwer Ali calls for global standards with local architectural identity

On World Architecture Day 2026, Engr. Anwer Ali, Civil Engineer, international builder in Australia and Pakistan, President of the Sir Syed Foundation of Pakistan, and Co-Chancellor of Metropolitan University Karachi, called for Pakistan to combine its rich architectural heritage with modern global engineering and construction standards.
Addressing the event organised by the Institute of Architects Pakistan (IAP), Karachi Chapter, Engr. Anwer Ali highlighted the importance of safe, affordable, sustainable and dignified housing, in line with this year’s global theme: “Housing is a Human Right. Build It.”
“Australia demonstrates how strong planning, sustainability and building standards can shape better communities. Pakistan has exceptional talent and architectural heritage—we must combine both to create world-class, sustainable and culturally rooted cities.”
He emphasised that Pakistan’s future architecture should embrace innovation, sustainability, safety and international standards while preserving its unique cultural identity.
The event concluded with recognition of emerging and young architects contributing to the future of Pakistan’s built environment.
