Amir Muqam claims public relief after imposition of governor’s rule in KP

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) provincial president Engineer Amir Muqam has said the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency has brought the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments onto the same page, expressing optimism that a new phase of development and prosperity will begin in the province.
Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club here on Monday , he claimed that the end of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s 13-year rule in the province had not triggered major protests or public condemnation, adding that people had celebrated the development by distributing sweets and dancing. Mr Muqam said the time had come for the advisory council to play its role in ensuring accountability for alleged corruption, misuse of public funds and the protection of militants.
He alleged that the previous PTI governments had wasted public resources over the past 13 years, used the public exchequer to secure the release of a prisoner and diverted government resources towards political rallies and demonstrations. He also accused the party of repeatedly attempting to confront the federal government.
The PML-N leader further alleged that protecting militants, corruption and misappropriation had become hallmarks of PTI’s governance, claiming that people had welcomed the end of its rule and were observing what he described as a “day of deliverance”.
He said the province’s longstanding deprivations needed to be addressed and its residents provided facilities comparable to those available in other provinces.
Acknowledging the difficulties caused by containers placed on roads in Peshawar to restrict movement, Mr Muqam said the barriers would be removed within a day or two.
He added that law enforcement agencies were making efforts to maintain law and order in the province.
Mr Muqam expressed hope that KP would enter a period of prosperity, arguing that the previous provincial leadership had focused on political rallies and demonstrations at the expense of governance.
