CM effectively presented KP’s case at NEC: Shafi Jan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said on Wednesday that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi effectively presented the province’s case for its constitutional and financial rights at the National Economic Council meeting.
In a statement on the NEC meeting, Jan said the assurance to update the National Finance Commission Award reflected the success of the provincial government’s stance and was a positive development for the people of KP. He welcomed the decision to include the financial share of the merged districts in the new NFC Award, saying it would benefit the province, particularly residents of the former FATA region.
Safeguarding the constitutional and financial rights of KP’s people remains the top priority of the provincial government, Jan said.
“Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has consistently raised an effective voice for the province’s rights at every constitutional and national forum,” he added.
The minister emphasized that KP was not seeking concessions from the federal government but demanding its constitutional and legal entitlements.
He said achieving development goals would not be possible without the full financial inclusion of the merged districts, and that the provincial government was pursuing a comprehensive strategy for the development, rehabilitation, and stability of both settled and merged areas.
Jan said the federal government owed KP billions of rupees under various heads, including NFC arrears, War on Terror reimbursements, and net hydel profit payments. Once received, he said, the funds would be spent on provincial development, basic services, and public welfare.
He also announced that under CM Afridi’s leadership, a protest demonstration would be held in Islamabad on June 12.
The provincial government, he said, would continue its struggle for constitutional rights, equitable resource distribution, and protection of public interests.
