Shafi condemns denial of meetings with Imran Khan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan on Tuesday condemned the denial of meetings between PTI founder Imran Khan and his sisters, as well as the arrest of party workers outside Adiala Jail, terming the actions a violation of court orders.
In a statement, Mr Jan alleged that the federal and Punjab governments were disregarding orders of the Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court regarding Mr Khan’s meetings with his family and access to basic facilities.
He claimed that the PTI founder was being kept in isolation and alleged that adequate attention was not being paid to his health. He demanded that Mr Khan be provided treatment and all facilities guaranteed under the law, including meetings with his family.
The provincial minister also condemned the arrest of PTI workers outside Adiala Jail, alleging that peaceful political workers were being subjected to “political victimisation”.
Mr Jan said the KP chief minister, Mr Khan’s sisters and the PTI had pursued legal avenues to secure permission for meetings with the former prime minister, but the request had repeatedly been denied.
Drawing a comparison with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, he said Mr Sharif had been allowed access to his personal doctors and regular meetings with family members and party leaders, while Mr Khan was being denied similar facilities.
Mr Jan demanded implementation of court orders and provision of all constitutional and legal rights to Mr Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
He also said the PTI would continue its “peaceful, constitutional and legal struggle” for supremacy of the Constitution, adding that the party’s planned Sept 27 long march would be part of its campaign against the federal government.
