PTI to hold public gathering at IKCS on Aug 5

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced holding a large public gathering at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Peshawar, on August 5, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said the event would mark the launch of a movement for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Provincial Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan announced the public gathering during a joint press conference with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar on Wednesday.
He said a meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Central General Secretary Salman Akram Raja, Asad Qaiser and other senior party leaders.
Mr Jan said the decision to hold the gathering on August 5 was taken to mark three years since the arrest of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan. He added that party workers from across the province would participate in large numbers.
The information minister said every prisoner was entitled to basic human rights, alleging that Imran Khan had been deprived of such rights. He claimed that the PTI founder had remained in solitary confinement for several months and that restrictions had been placed on meetings with him.
He said the party’s future strategy and next course of action would be announced during the August 5 gathering, which would serve as the beginning of a campaign for Imran Khan’s release.
Mr Jan added that consultations would also be held with Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and other political parties opposing the federal government to develop a joint strategy for future political action.
