IGP honours KP police officers for anti-terror, crime-fighting operations

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed on Thursday awarded cash prizes and commendation certificates to nine police officers and personnel from the Kohat and Mardan regions in recognition of their outstanding performance in operations against terrorists and other criminals.
The awards were presented during a ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Peshawar, where senior police officers, including additional IGPs and DIGs, were also present.
According to a police statement, the recipients were honoured for their role in operations against terrorists, target killers, proclaimed offenders, murder suspects and habitual criminals.
The statement said Hangu police launched an operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of a large group of terrorists in the jurisdiction of Sarki Piala police station who were allegedly planning attacks on police installations. During a nine-hour exchange of fire led by the SDPO City Circle and SHO City police station, seven terrorists were killed.
In another operation, police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel responded to a coordinated terrorist attack on the Zargari checkpost. Led by the SDPO Tall Circle and SHO Sadar police station, the operation continued for 36 hours in difficult mountainous terrain, resulting in the killing and injury of several terrorists, the statement added.
The IGP also recognised DSP Sikandar Hassan and his team for solving the kidnapping and murder case of a four-year-old girl in Orakzai district. Police said the investigation involved the questioning of 19 suspects before the alleged killer was arrested.
Karak police were also commended for dismantling an inter-district motorcycle theft gang after a three-week operation, during which several stolen motorcycles were recovered.
The statement added that Mardan region police were acknowledged for effective policing measures that contributed to improved law and order and a noticeable reduction in crime in the district.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr Hameed said recognising officers who displayed courage and dedication to duty was an important tradition that encouraged professionalism within the force.
He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was performing its responsibilities with courage, commitment and professionalism despite challenging circumstances, bringing honour to the department.
The IGP urged the award recipients to continue their efforts to eliminate terrorism and maintain law and order across the province, expressing confidence that they would continue to serve with the same commitment and dedication.
