KP govt prioritises flood preparedness, irrigation reforms: Riaz Khan

PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Thursday chaired a review meeting on the performance of the irrigation department, stressing urgent measures for flood preparedness and improvement of canal infrastructure.
The meeting, held at the irrigation department’s committee room, was attended by Abdul Basit, chief engineers and other officials.
Participants reviewed ongoing development projects, canal cleaning, equitable water distribution, construction of protective embankments and progress on key irrigation schemes across the province.
In view of a potential flood situation, the minister directed authorities to take immediate steps to safeguard public life and property, including strengthening embankments and improving the canal system.
He said protecting citizens remains the top priority of the provincial government.
Riaz Khan added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, practical steps are being taken to modernise the irrigation system, enhance canal infrastructure and ensure timely water supply to farmers.
He reiterated that the irrigation department will continue to perform its duties effectively to improve the canal network and provide relief to farmers across the province.
