CM Gandapur chairs meeting on Haqooq e Pakistan Project
An important meeting of the Haqooq e Pakistan Project II, a European Union and UNDP funded project, was held here on Wednesday with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in the chair.
The Federal Secretary for Human Rights, the Advocate General of KP, and officials from federal and provincial departments, as well as representatives from the UNDP attended the meeting, said a handout.
The meeting focused on finalizing the action plan for the effective implementation of the project and achieving its objectives. A key decision was to establish a coordinated mechanism between federal and provincial departments to ensure smooth execution.
According to the statement, the project, supported by the European Union and UNDP, is set to span three and a half years. Its main goal is to improve the human rights situation in KP by strengthening relevant institutions.
A key component of the initiative involves digitizing human rights data across the province, which will streamline service delivery and enhance the complaint management system.
Additionally, human rights programs will be introduced in the higher education sector, with two universities identified to lead the way. The project will also integrate human rights-related data from all relevant provincial departments, creating a comprehensive overview of the province’s human rights landscape.
Chief Minister Gandapur highlighted the importance of establishing a centralized database for marginalized communities to ensure equal access to services. This initiative aligns with the provincial government’s ongoing efforts to support deprived sections of society, including people with disabilities.
To ensure the long-term success of the project, the Chief Minister directed the formation of a steering committee, with key departments such as Finance and P&D to play a vital role in sustaining the initiative.
The Chief Minister emphasized that strengthening human rights institutions was an urgent priority, pointing out that Pakistan’s international reputation has been affected by rising human rights violations. He stressed the importance of fulfilling international agreements and restoring hope for the country’s deprived people to create a just and prosperous society.
