All parties unite in KP Jirga as CM Gandapur takes charge of peace initiative

PESHAWAR: In a significant move towards restoring peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), federal and provincial governments, alongside political parties, gathered on one platform at the invitation of Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. A Grand Jirga was held at the Chief Minister’s House, with participation from all political parties, including Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, representing the federal government.
The jirga, hosted by KP Chief Minister Gandapur at CM House Peshawar, saw active involvement from members of the KP Assembly, parliamentarians, and political leaders such as Awami National Party (ANP) central president Aimal Wali Khan, JI provincial emir Professor Ibrahim, Mohsin Dawar, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, and Speaker of the KP Assembly Babir Salim Swati.
The chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar, with prominent figures like Opposition Leader in KP Assembly Dr Ibad and Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam also attended the Jirga.
Addressing the participants of the Jirga, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed gratitude to the political leaders for their participation, stating, “We have gathered here beyond our political differences to work for the peace and stability of our province.”
He emphasized that protecting the lives and property of citizens, whether civilians or security forces, is a shared responsibility and priority.
He urged for dialogue and negotiations, grounded in Pashtun traditions, as the pathway to resolving ongoing conflicts.
Governor Kundi reiterated the importance of peace as the jirga’s sole agenda, emphasizing the need for negotiations to solve the region’s problems. “We must engage with those who respect the constitution and the law of the land,” he stated, adding that cooperation between provincial and federal governments is essential for peace.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also assured full cooperation from the federal government, stressing that all efforts for peace would remain within the framework of the constitution and law.
According to a statement issued here the jirga has unanimously empowered Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to lead the peace efforts. Provincial government spokesperson Barrister Dr Saif confirmed that political leaders had entrusted Gandapur with the full authority to devise a peaceful resolution to the challenges facing the province.
The Chief Minister graciously accepted the responsibility, committing to formulating a comprehensive consultation and action plan in the coming days.
