Shafi Jan claims Imran Khan denied medical care, threatens protest movement

PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shafi Jan has alleged that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were being denied proper medical treatment and access to their family members, calling it a violation of human rights and international laws.
Addressing a press conference organised by the Insaf Doctors Forum at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Friday, the minister claimed that the former prime minister and his spouse were being deprived of adequate healthcare facilities, resulting in deterioration of their health.
He alleged that both were being kept away from their personal doctors and that transparent information regarding their medical condition was not being shared. He further claimed that they were taken to hospital under restricted conditions, without adherence to prison procedures, and were later informed of brief treatment.
Shafi Jan demanded that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for complete medical treatment.
He also criticised what he described as unequal treatment of political leaders, claiming that during the PTI government, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was provided extensive facilities in custody, including regular family visits.
The minister further alleged that the federal government was failing to address rising inflation and unemployment, while also withholding funds owed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including dues related to internally displaced persons.
He said the province was facing economic and administrative challenges and accused the Centre of neglecting its responsibilities towards KP.
Shafi Jan warned that the PTI would intensify its protest campaign if the alleged issues regarding Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s treatment were not addressed, adding that the party would respond to any call for protest from its leadership.
He also said the party would continue to raise its voice at all forums, including possible street demonstrations, if required.
