Minister orders strict quality control in KP development projects

Provincial Minister for Communications and Works (C&W) Shakeel Khan has directed strict enforcement of quality standards and mandatory laboratory testing of construction materials used in all public development projects across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that transparency and durability in infrastructure works will not be compromised.
He was chairing a departmental briefing meeting held here on Tuesday, which was attended by Secretary Communications and Works Noor-ul-Amin, MNA Sher Ali Arbab, all chief engineers of the department, and senior technical officers, said a handout.
During the meeting, Secretary C&W briefed the provincial minister on ongoing development projects, the department’s development portfolio, administrative matters, and future planning.
Mr Khan stressed that authentic testing of construction materials must be ensured in all road construction and rehabilitation schemes across the province. He directed that laboratory testing be made compulsory and that strict adherence to prescribed engineering standards be maintained in all projects.
He further instructed field officers, including superintending engineers, executive engineers, and sub-divisional officers, to carry out regular site inspections to ensure timely and quality completion of development schemes. He added that chief engineers should strengthen supervision mechanisms and verify field visits conducted by subordinate staff.
The minister also directed the early implementation of the Road Asset Management System (RAMS), instructing the department to formulate a comprehensive policy and submit it to the provincial government for approval without delay. He said the system would help align road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance with modern standards.
The meeting also reviewed pending promotion cases in various departmental cadres. The minister ordered that all such cases be finalised on a priority basis to ensure timely professional advancement of employees and to improve institutional efficiency.
Emphasising transparency, accountability, and quality construction, Mr Khan urged all officers to work with coordination and professional commitment to further improve infrastructure development and public service delivery across the province.
