Kohli Edges Closer To Break Babar Azam’s T20 Record
Islamabad
Virat Kohli made his 8th IPL century on Saturday, April 6, in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Kohli’s hundred came in 67 balls, making it the slowest in IPL history and just three centuries away from Pakistan’s cricket captain Babar Azam.
As per Times of India, former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper scored 113 runs off 72 balls at Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium, Jaipur with a strike rate of 156.94.
However, despite his century, questions were raised about his strike rate, especially after RCB lost the game.
While people were criticizing him for the slowest century, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag explained the reason behind Kohli’s low strike rate.
Talking to the Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, “Virat Kohli’s strike rate could have gone up because when you hit 50 off 39 balls, then the strike rate goes up, nears 200 even.
But the other batters did not do anything. All the pressure was on Kohli.”
Additionally, Kohli holds the record for most centuries (8) in the IPL.
With this recent century, Kohli has now scored 9 centuries in the shortest format of cricket, 8 IPL centuries and one in a T20 international.
Kohli is now just three centuries away from breaking Babar Azam’s record and securing second place on the list of most T20 centuries in T20 cricket.
