IHC seeks report on petition seeking proceedings against the responsible of PIMS tragedy

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed respondents to file report and parawise comments on the petition seeking proceedings against the Executive Director PIMS and other responsible officers in connection with incident of death of infants in PIMS hospital. Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar while issuing written order has directed the respondents to file report and parawise comments within 15 days. The court has ordered to make the reports presented to Prime Minister (PM) Pakistan part of record. The petitioner Nasir Azeem Khan has taken the plea 14 infants lost their lives in fire incident in PIMS MCH Nursery on August 26, 2026. His own infant son had died in a fire incident in PIMS in September 2025.
It was further said in the petition that fire incident had occurred in female nursing hostel of PIMS too on July 6, 2026.
The petitioner while requesting for conducting independent inquiry against Executive Director PIMS and other responsible officers said that alleged negligence of duty , slackness of officials and administrative failure be investigated.
The petition said there is lack of effective accountability of persons holding senior administrative posts.
The petitioner also requested for preserving CCTV footage, Electronic data, duty and maintenance record.
The petitioner also demanded that appointment of executive director PIMS and other officers be scrutinized as per law.
The petitioner has prayed for initiating criminal and departmental proceedings against responsible persons.
According to the petitioner ensuring safety, fire safety and emergency arrangements is the responsibility of authority.
Next hearing of the case will take place on September 28.
