Automatic detection of electricity theft through ami meters continues: IESCO Chief

Islamabad: Chief Executive IESCO, Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, stated that one of the most significant features of AMI meters is their ability to automatically detect electricity theft. He briefed that recently, AMI Operation Room reported multiple cases of electricity theft and meter tampering in various areas of Rawalpindi, including Tarnol, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Seham, Gangal, Dhoke Kala Khan, Swan, Rawat, and Adiala. Upon receiving timely information, the concerned SDO offices took immediate action. Electricity supply to the identified consumers was promptly disconnected through the AMI system. Additionally, the respective SDO detection teams imposed fines on the offenders and submitted requests for registration of FIRs at the relevant police stations. Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood further stated that the use of this advanced metering technology will significantly accelerate the ongoing crackdown against electricity theft, in line with the directives of the Government of Pakistan. He appreciated the performance of Project Director AMI, Mohsin Raza Gilani, his team, and all operational formations, and reaffirmed the commitment to eliminate the menace of electricity theft from the IESCO region.
