Govt to provide free electric bikes to top students

PM directs 25% quota for women in EV scheme

ISLAMABAD
Prime Minister (PM) Shebaz Sharif has said federal government will provide electric bike to top students of all educational boards in the country.
A review meeting on encouragement of electric vehicles and government assistance in acquisition of rickshaw or loader was held under PM Shehbaz Sharif.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahad Khan Cheema, Atta Ullah Tarar. special advisor Haroon Akhtar, chief coordinator Musharraf Zaidi and respective senior officers.
PM said on the occasion that federal government will provide electric bike to toppers of all education boards in the country. Due to encouragement of electric vehicles, foreign exchange amounting to billions of dollars will be saved under the head of fuel and local industry will flourish.
He directed a comprehensive strategy be evolved of the steps at government level for access of common man to electric vehicle. Steps be taken for establishment of a complete eco system for manufacturing electric vehicles and maintenance .
He said third party validation be got done of distribution of electric vehicles and entire process of government assistance in it. People from financially weak segments of society be preferred in the scheme.
Awareness campaign be launched among the people about government assistance scheme in acquiring electric vehicle. It should be ensured that rickshaws and loaders are of the best standard and they come upto safety standard.
It was told in the meeting that free electric bikes will be provided to students including boys and girls for showing excellent performance at intermediate level in all the educational boards including federal board under this scheme.
Briefing was given that 25 percent special quota has been reserved for women in this scheme. The quota for other provinces has also been reserved in proportion to population.
PM directed to enhance quota for Balochistan by 10 percent.
It was further told 4 new battery manufacturing companies are launching their operation in the country under this scheme. This will provide new business and job opportunities to people in the country.
PM directed to ensure early launch of scheme based on these proposals in the country.
