Pakistan will not compromise on its share of water: PM

DUSHANBE
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has said decision by India for suspending Indus Water Treaty (IWT) unilaterally is condemnable.
Pakistan will not compromise on its share of water, he said this while addressing the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation in Dushanbe.
He held the world including Pakistan is facing climate change challenge.
Protecting glaciers is very important. Effects of climate change are falling on glaciers as well.
There are 13000 glaciers in Pakistan, he said adding glaciers form half portion of water in Pakistan . Glaciers are melting fast due to climate change. Flood caused severe damage to crops and infrastructure. Pakistan had to face floods and heavy rains due to climate change.
Joint measures are needed to counter climate change, he said.
He held developed countries should enhance investment in early warning system in developing countries. Developed countries should discharge their obligations to deal with climate change.
Echo system is being affected due to climate change. Pakistan is among those 10 countries which are most affected by climate change. Information minister Atta Ullah Tarar and special assistant to PM Tariq Fatmi also accompanied PM during his visit.
