CM KP urged to resolve Islamia College land agreement delays

PESHAWAR
The Association of Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff of Islamia College Peshawar has voiced serious concern over the delay in renewing commercial and agricultural land agreements tied to the college’s properties.
The association warned that land mafias were exploiting the situation by obstructing the process of renewal for personal gain. “Islamia College, which has educated generations and served as a beacon of knowledge, is now itself engulfed in financial darkness,” said a statement from the association.
In a statement issued here stated that the association has appealed to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur—who also serves as Chancellor of the province’s universities—to take immediate notice of the issue and authorize the signing of new agreements.
The matter was discussed during a cabinet meeting of the association held under the chairmanship of AJK President Prof. Dr. Dil Nawaz Khan.
The meeting was attended by presidents and general secretaries of all affiliated staff bodies.
Participants noted that most of Islamia College’s property agreements expired in December 2024, and despite the lapse of nearly six months, no progress has been made on renewing them. The delay, they said, has led to mounting financial stress on the institution.
The prolonged delay has forced the administration to impose additional fees on students, while faculty and staff have gone without salaries for several months. The association warned that continued inaction could irreparably harm the legacy and operations of the historic institution.
AJK has given the administration a deadline of May 31 to resolve the matter, warning that a course of action will be decided on June 2 if no progress is made.
The association urged the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to approve new agreements, recover occupied properties from illegal encroachments, and protect the financial and institutional integrity of Islamia College.
