DG PDMA meets USAID delegation to discuss 2024 monsoon preparedness

The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Syed Salman Shah held a meeting with a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at the PDMA headquarters in Karachi. PDMA and USAID teams discussed on preparations for the upcoming 2024 monsoon season, contingency planning, and the provincial rapid response capacity.
The delegation, led by Ms. Ivana Vuco from the USAID/BHA South and Central Asia Regional Office in Bangkok, included Ms. Rachel Grant, US Military-Civil Humanitarian Affairs Advisor in Islamabad; and Mr. Abdul Rehman, USAID Humanitarian Assistance Team Leader in Islamabad.
The meeting aimed to review the response to the devastating 2022 floods in Sindh Province and to ensure robust preparedness for potential future disasters.
The delegation expressed their commitment to providing continued support and assistance to flood victims in the region.
DG PDMA Sindh, Syed Salman Shah, highlighted the anticipated severity of the upcoming monsoon season, indicating that rainfall could be greater than usual.
He assured that comprehensive measures were being implemented to mitigate potential impacts and to aid affected communities.
This visit marks Ms. Vuco’s first official engagement in Pakistan since her appointment in May 2024. The meeting underscored the ongoing collaboration between USAID and PDMA to enhance disaster management and response strategies in Sindh.
