Governor calls for uninterrupted power supply to bill-paying consumers

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review loadshedding, line losses, electricity bill recovery and other power-related issues in the province.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Fakhar Alam Irfan, Chief Executive Officer Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) Akhtar Hameed Khan, Chief Executive Officer Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company (Tesco) Zubair Khan Kundi and other senior officials, according to a statement issued here by the governor’s office.
The statement said that governor Kundi was given a detailed briefing on loadshedding across the province, line losses, recovery of electricity bills and other related matters.
The meeting also discussed in detail the causes of loadshedding, the problems being faced and their possible solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kundi said that transformer-based loadshedding would ensure that other consumers of the concerned feeder were not affected.
He said ensuring uninterrupted power supply to consumers who regularly paid their electricity bills was their basic right.
The governor stressed the need for effective measures to improve recovery on feeders where bill recovery was low.
He said the installation of smart transformers would significantly help in preventing electricity theft.
Mr Kundi emphasised the need to activate committees comprising relevant departments to curb electricity theft.
He called for making legislation against electricity theft and meter tampering more stringent.
The governor directed that all available resources be utilised to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people.
He said an integrated strategy would have to be adopted to prevent electricity theft and reduce line losses, adding that resolving public problems related to electricity in the province should be the top priority.
