Traders in Bara oppose Bazaar closure, demand security

The Traders Association, Bara asked to enhance security instead of shutting down Bara Bazaar, saying that closing the market without taking traders into confidence was unacceptable.
It is worth mentioning that Bara Bazaar was closed on Wednesday following violent protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers Yesterday evening during which two workers were injured.
In a joint statement, President of the Association Syed Ayaz Wazir flanked by office-bearers of the association, including Senior Vice-President Haji Istakar, former President Meraj Afridi, Vice-President Azeem Khan and Muhammad Ishaq, expressed concern over the closure of Bara Bazaar.
Suspending the market without consultation not only can cause financial losses to traders, who are already facing multiple economic challenges but also the initiative can disrupt the supply of food items and other essential commodities, they remarked.
The association urged the authorities to tighten security at checkpoints surrounding the market and prevent protest rallies and processions from entering the bazaar to maintain law and order while protecting businesses and ensuring safe movement for the public.
They called on Khyber Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer to take immediate notice of the situation, hear the traders’ concerns and plan a mutually agreed solution through consultation.
