In view of the ongoing monsoon rains across the country, the National Highways & Motorway Police () has issued a travel advisory, urging commuters to adopt necessary precautionary measures, exercise extreme caution while travelling, and strictly comply with traffic laws. The NHMP has advised that rainfall may result in slippery road surfaces, reduced visibility, and an increased risk of traffic accidents on national highways and motorways.
Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and, if travel is unavoidable, to exercise maximum caution. Drivers are advised to reduce their speed during rain, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and use headlights whenever required to ensure better visibility.
Travellers are also advised to exercise extra caution while travelling through hilly areas, where there is a possibility of landslides and falling rocks due to persistent rainfall. In view of the potential flooding of seasonal streams and nullahs, the NHMP strongly advises the public not to attempt crossing floodwaters under any circumstances, as doing so may prove extremely dangerous.
Citizens travelling to the northern areas are advised to check the latest weather forecast and road conditions before commencing their journey in order to avoid any unforeseen situation. The NHMP further urges motorists to refrain completely from using mobile phones while driving and to remain fully focused on the road and surrounding traffic at all times.
