Saudi Arabia, Japan deepen strategic dialogue on economic security and future partnership

TOKYO: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr met recently with Japan’s Economic Security Minister Kimi Onada for wide-ranging discussions on Riyadh and Tokyo’s evolving partnership and cooperation in strategic sectors shaping the global economy.

The officials explored prospects for closer collaboration in economic security, artificial intelligence, space, advanced technologies, and innovation.

And highlighted the growing importance of culture and creative industries as drivers of economic resilience, national competitiveness, and long-term prosperity.

The discussions reflected the increasingly comprehensive nature of Saudi-Japanese relations as both countries continue to diversify their partnership beyond its traditional foundations.

Binzagr said the next phase of the relationship was not simply about expanding cooperation across additional sectors, but about strengthening the foundations that enable lasting strategic partnerships.

“The most enduring partnerships are built not only through projects, but through trust between people, strong institutional relationships, and a shared commitment to creating value for future generations,” he said.

The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening connections among government institutions, academia, industry, research organizations, and emerging leaders, recognizing that sustainable partnerships depend on deep and resilient networks of cooperation.

Saudi Arabia and Japan have steadily expanded their collaboration in recent years across investment, energy, innovation, culture, tourism, education, and advanced industries.

As both countries pursue ambitious national transformation agendas, opportunities continue to grow for closer coordination in emerging technologies, economic resilience, and future-oriented industries.

The meeting forms part of the broader momentum toward elevating Saudi-Japanese relations into a more integrated long-term strategic partnership, reflecting the shared ambition of both countries to contribute to regional stability, technological advancement, and sustainable economic growth.

The meeting was attended by embassy diplomats Nayef Al-Talhi, Ahmed Al-Fadel, and Noura Al-Otaibi.

Binzagr said true comprehensive resilience was about connecting security and economy with culture and civilizations.

“In that sense we see great opportunity for Japan and the Kingdom as they continue to reach for each other with deep cultural curiosity and respect while they explore prosperity, stability and peace for their respective regions and the world,” he said.
