SC suspends notification on constitution of 8 ETs

Top court adjourns hearing in election tribunal case for an infinite period

ISLAMABAD
Supreme Court (SC) has suspended notification regarding constitution of 8 Election Tribunals (ETs).
According to orders of 5 members larger bench of SC presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa the notifications issued by Election Commission (EC) have been suspended.
According to details of tribunals justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal was hearing election petitions from Faisalabad, Jhang and other cities, Justice Shahid Karim from Gujranwala, Hafiz Abad, Mandi Baha ud Din , Justice Anwar Hussain on election petitions from Lahore, Justice Sultan Tanvir from Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana. Justice Asim Hafiz in Rawalpindi bench, Justice Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Rahil Karim in Multan Bench and Justice Mirza Waqas in Bahawalpur bench.
According to SC orders all the tribunals have been suspended. The hearing of all pending election petitions in these tribunals will remain suspended unless parliamentary party approves recommended chief justice of Lahore High Court Alia Neelam and she takes oath. It has been made binding on EC to complete the consultation process after Chief Justice Lahore high court takes oath as chief justice.
