Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed has said that the Safe City project was playing a significant role in preventing terrorism and improving crime detection in the provincial capital.
In a statement issued, the IGP said that under the project, panic buttons had been installed at 68 locations across Peshawar to provide timely assistance to citizens in emergency situations.
He said the panic button system was equipped with audio and video communication facilities and was directly linked to the Safe City headquarters, enabling immediate coordination with law enforcement agencies. He added that police response was ensured without delay when the system was activated.
Mr Hameed said the initiative was particularly aimed at enhancing the safety of students, women and citizens in crowded public places. He expressed hope that with a positive public response, the facility would be extended to other cities of the province.
The police chief described the panic button system as a step towards strengthening public safety and said it reflected the commitment of KP Police to protect the lives and property of citizens.
