Ruckus-marred KP Assembly session

PESHAWAR
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday witnessed a ruckus as treasury and opposition members clashed during the proceedings, turning the house chaotic.
The situation escalated during the speech of government member Dr. Amjad, forcing the session to be adjourned.
The incident occurred when PTI Dr. Amjad claimed that the popularity of PTI founder Imran Khan had increased following a press conference by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudary.
Tensions rose further when PML-N MPA Sobia Shahid brought a photo of Field Marshal Asim Munir into the assembly session chaired by Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi.
The Deputy Speaker expressed his displeasure, saying, “Sobiya Bibi, sit comfortably, you are deliberately spoiling the atmosphere.”
In response, Sobia Shahid shouted slogans in support of the Field Marshal. Bitter exchanges followed between the opposition and government members, with the opposition also displaying placards and banners demanding attention to their concerns.
Despite repeated attempts by the Deputy Speaker to mediate, the verbal confrontations continued, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the session until Monday, October 15.
PML-N members later criticized the government for “unacceptable” criticism of institutions during assembly proceedings and condemned the disruption as a waste of legislative time, urging adherence to the house agenda.
