Federal government has taken a serious notice of recent hike in salaries and allowances of chairman and commissioners of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) besides launching probe into the matter. Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a high level committee under Rana Sana Ullah which will submit report within two weeks. According to government sources committee has been tasked with reviewing all aspects of hike in salaries besides determining if the increase was in accordance with rules and regulations or otherwise.
The committee will also give recommendations for making transparency, accountability and monitoring system more effective in regulatory entities.
Sources said government is seeing this matter as an example so that such decisions don’t recur against public interest in future.
A coordinated policy is likely to be worked out for future in the light of recommendations of committee.
