Pak-Malaysia to strengthen ties in digital and IT sectors

KUALA LUMPUR
Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister for Digital of Malaysia, on the sidelines of the Pakistan–Malaysia Business and Investment Conference held in Kuala Lumpur on October 6.
During the meeting, both Ministers underscored the growing importance of digital transformation in enhancing trade, investment, and technological collaboration between Pakistan and Malaysia. They discussed expanding e-commerce platforms, facilitating cross-border digital services, strengthening cybersecurity cooperation, and promoting joint ventures in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5G infrastructure.
The Ministers expressed satisfaction over the productive meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, terming it a milestone in strengthening bilateral relations.
They also expressed optimism that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT and ITeS (P@SHA) and the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) would significantly deepen digital linkages and cooperation in the IT sector.
Following the meeting, the two Ministers jointly inaugurated the TechConnect Conference, where they delivered keynote addresses to participants from leading and emerging companies in both countries.
The event featured prominent organizations including MDEC, Cyberview, the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association, PIKOM, as well as representatives from AWS and Oracle.
Delegates engaged in presentations, discussions, and networking sessions, exploring innovative solutions and identifying new business opportunities in the digital and IT sectors.
The Minister for Commerce accompanied Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during his state visit to Malaysia from October 5–7.
