Minister lauds revenue collection performance of excise dept

A monthly review meeting of the Excise and Taxation Department regarding recovery and performance was held in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise and Taxation Khaleeq-ur-Rehman.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise Department Khalid Ilyas, Director General Abdul Aleem Khan, and all district Excise and Taxation Officers. The meeting reviewed the revenue collection, recovery, and set targets for the ten months of the current fiscal year 2024–25 (July to April).
It was informed that the Excise Department has collected Rs 5.5 billion in revenue during FY 2024–25, compared to Rs 2.9 billion in the previous year. Minister Khaleeq-ur-Rehman has expressed satisfaction and happiness over this significant improvement.
During the meeting, the Minister was given a detailed briefing on the revenue targets and collections of all district Excise offices. He was also updated on various ongoing administrative reforms and public service facilitation initiatives in the department.
Officers who demonstrated good performance were appreciated on the occasion. Minister Khaleeq-ur-Rehman expressed happiness over the department’s overall improved performance compared to the previous. He reaffirmed the commitment that in the coming years, efforts will continue with even more dedication and hard work to increase recovery and revenue for the welfare of the people of the province.
He directed the launch of a special campaign against major tax defaulters across the province in accordance with the law. Likewise, actions should be intensified against token tax defaulters and unregistered vehicles/motorcycles and rickshaws.
It was decided in the meeting that a support desk or center should be activated for the public to promptly address their complaints. An awareness campaign regarding universal number plates should be intensified so that people can benefit from it. A comprehensive plan will also be formed regarding electric vehicles.
