Kurram Grand Jirga not dissolved: Dr Saif

PESHAWAR
KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif on Monday clarified that the Kurram Grand Jirga has not been dissolved, adding that the jirga parties had requested a one-day break for further consultations, particularly concerning the elimination of bunkers and the collection of weapons.
In a statement issued here, Barrister Saif emphasized that reports about the dissolution of the jirga are baseless and urged the public to avoid spreading such misinformation, suggesting it could be the work of those opposing peace efforts.
He reaffirmed that the provincial government was committed to ensuring permanent peace in Kurram, with the removal of bunkers and the collection of weapons being a crucial step in this process. This decision is in line with the cabinet’s directive to eliminate security threats in the region, he added.
KP government spokesperson assured that the provincial government was actively addressing the needs of the affected population.
Essential medicines were being delivered to the area via helicopter, and the injured were being evacuated to Peshawar for treatment. Furthermore, the Chief Minister has ordered the Food Department to send 2,000 metric tons of wheat to alleviate food shortages in the region.
The issues in Kurram have persisted for over 120 years, and resolving them will take time. However, he expressed confidence that, with the continued efforts of the Chief Minister, a permanent solution would be achieved, bringing lasting peace to the area.
