Kundi lauds PM for forming committee on KP CNG closure issue

PESHAWAR
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for constituting a committee to address the issue of CNG station closures in the province.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor said the prime minister had taken an important step toward resolving the longstanding issue affecting the people and transport sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Faisal Karim Kundi said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produces 508 MMCFD (million cubic feet per day) of gas, while the province’s total requirement is only 130 MMCFD. Despite this, he said, the closure of CNG stations has created severe difficulties for the public and transporters.
The governor emphasized that under Article 158 of the Constitution, the province producing natural gas has the first right over its resources, adding that the rights of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must be protected.
He further said it was encouraging that all political parties in the province had united on the issue of CNG closures. He added that rising above political differences and speaking with one voice on matters of public interest was the need of the hour.
