KP Assembly session emphasis on unity, dialogue for peace restoration
Power should not always be exercised forcefully, Gandapur

PESHAWAR
During a recent session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, opposition leader and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Dr Ibadullah highlighted the positive role played by lawmakers in the Khyber Jirga and stressed that restoring law and order should be the government’s top priority.
He emphasized the unity among all political parties in the province aimed at achieving peace and resolving long standing disputes in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Dr Ibadullah advocated for dialogue and negotiation, urging the government to listen to the grievances of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and others who suffered in the tribal belt from the scourge of terrorism and operations.
Faisal Karim Kundi, the parliamentary leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), also echoed these sentiments, underscoring the importance of unity among assembly members and political parties for restoration of peace and stability of the province.
He stated that collective efforts could achieve what once seemed impossible and called for adherence to constitutional demands while rejecting any unconstitutional propositions.
Kundi expressed optimism that with continued unity, the assembly could effectively reach its goals.
Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur addressed the assembly, critiquing the federal government’s heavy-handed approach, which he claimed resulted in the deaths of four individuals in the Khyber Jirga.
He asserted that power should not always be exercised forcefully, as it often leads to dire consequences.
Gandapur mentioned the peaceful conclusion of the Jirga held in Khyber district, which had a 22-point agenda developed through consultations with political parties and PTM leaders.
Reflecting on the region’s history, he noted the impact of two superpowers over the last 45 years, arguing that local perspectives have often been overlooked in the quest for peace.
He recognized the sacrifices made by local people who were displaced from their homes and pledged to implement the province’s constitutional responsibilities fully.
The Chief Minister proposed forming a committee to address the Kurram district issue, emphasizing the need for faith, good intentions, and prioritizing national interests over personal agendas.
He cautioned that actions taken today will shape history and reiterated the assembly’s responsibility to improve conditions for the youth, steering the province towards the aspirations of its people.
Overall, the session reflected a commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at addressing grievances and restoring stability in KP.
The KP Assembly has been adjourned until Wednesday, October 16.
