IRGC warns US with use of ‘new weapons’ if attacks resume

Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi, spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warned on Tuesday that Iran would bring “new weapons” to the battlefield if the conflict with the US “takes on a different form”.
“The enemies certainly have other scenarios as well; we are not unaware of those scenarios and have prepared ourselves,” he said in a press conference, according to Fars news agency.
“We are incessantly designing new weapons, upgrading the existing ones, and continuing our mass production of weaponry to be able to defend ourselves. We employ technologies from around the world to manufacture arms capable of defending our country and our people,” he remarked.
The IRGC spokesperson also called US President Donald Trump a “big liar”, accusing him of concealing the truth from Americans about Iran’s nuclear programme and the effectiveness of Iran’s blockade of energy supplies from the Gulf.
Among his reasons for waging war on Iran, Trump has cited the need to ensure that it will never be able to build a nuclear weapon.
“The enemy (US) knows that Iran is not after nuclear weapons,” Mohebbi said. “Their issue with Iran is not its nuclear programme but rather its vastness, which they want to destroy.”
He also challenged US assertions that Iran had lost most of its leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, in part because the US military had been able to protect some of the tankers bringing oil out of the Gulf.
“The fact that the Americans might manage, at great expense, considerable trouble, and high risk to sneak a small vessel through the Strait of Hormuz under cover of darkness to export, say, 100 or 200 barrels of oil does not mean the Strait is open,” Mohebbi said.
According to Kpler data, September saw a recovery of oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz, which are set to hit almost 10 million barrels per day, about half the pre-war volume.
Mohebbi further said that the IRGC had prepared a detailed letter to the American people to explain Iran’s positions, according to IRNA.
Mohebbi added that the IRGC could have opted for short and immediate media content, such as social media posts, but instead chose to address the American people in a “detailed and logical manner.”
He added that the letter seeks to help Americans better understand Iran’s views and positions, adding that while Iran faces limitations in accessing media outlets inside the United States, the country has hundreds of television and radio networks.
In separate comments carried by IRNA, he said that US bases “not only fail to provide security, but are themselves a source of insecurity” in a message addressed to Iran’s neighbours.
“By pouring trillions of dollars into the region and stationing extensive military infrastructure and weaponry there, the United States claimed to be safeguarding regional security. In reality, these bases not only failed to do so, but they also turned into a source of instability,” he said.
“These bases couldn’t even defend themselves; most are damaged, unusable, and not worth rebuilding for the US.”
