Imran, Bushra likely to Challenge Toshakhana-II

Islamabad
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are expected to have their petitions challenging the Toshakhana-II case verdict heard in the Islamabad High Court later this week.
The appeals against the convictions were filed through lawyer Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry. The Islamabad High Court has assigned diary number 24561 to Bushra Bibi’s petition and 24560 to Imran Khan’s appeal.
In their petitions, the appellants argued that the trial court relied on statements from Anamullah Shah, who had already been removed, and depended on the testimony of a “promise of pardon” witness, which was not admissible. The prosecution, they claimed, failed to prove the case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
The appeals seek to have the Toshakhana-II case verdict annulled, asserting that:
• One cannot be sentenced multiple times for the same offence.
• The Special Central Court did not have jurisdiction to hear the case.
• Sohaib Abbasi was illegally appointed as a “state witness.”
• According to Toshakhana rules, the former ruling couple was entitled to retain the Bulgarian seat items in their possession.
• The case was registered without proper investigation and constitutes political victimisation.
• The appellants do not fall under the definition of a government employee.
The petitions also request that the court schedule the appeals for early hearing.
