Google Pay to Launch in Pakistan by March 2025

Islamabad
Google Pay is now officially entering Pakistan with a launch expected by mid-March 2025, sources close to the matter informed ProPakistani.
Sources told ProPakistani that the rollout was initially confirmed by Google itself in November 2024 and will be facilitated through partnerships with Visa and Mastercard. As expected, local banks will enable their cards to offer this feature.
Unlike the full suite of Google Wallet features, this arrival is specifically focused on enabling Google’s contactless payment system in Pakistan. Users will be able to link their bank-issued debit and credit cards to Google Pay, through the Google Wallet app.
The Google Wallet app will be activated for the Pakistani market as well, allowing them to manage payments and digital passes, boarding passes, etc.
Preparations are already underway, with four to six leading banks collaborating with Visa and Mastercard to meet the technical requirements for the service. All major banks in the country want a piece of this.
Pakistan’s payment infrastructure is well-positioned for the launch, with 133,000 point-of-sale terminals across the country, 99 percent of which are already equipped to accept mobile contactless payments.
