MARDAN
One cop was martyred and two others were injured when unidentified assailants attacked a police post near the historical Takht Bhai Buddhist archaeological site of district Mardan.
The first information report (FIR) of the incident said that early in the morning unidentified persons first hurled a hand grenade on the post and then started firing on police on duty.
The attack left one constable Umar Nabi dead and two on-duty constables injured. The injured were identified as Fayaz and Shabir Ahmad. The injured policemen were shifted to the Mardan Medical Complex for medical treatment.
The area was cordoned off after the attack and a police contingent, led by senior police officers of the district, launched a search operation to arrest the attackers. It was the second terrorist attack in the Takht Bhai, a tehsil of district Mardan.
Last week, three people were killed, and five others, including two children were injured in a bomb attack on the Jalala Bridge at Malakand-Mardan Road.
