‘CM’s efforts lead to lasting solution for Kurram conflict’

In a significant development, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has successfully brokered a lasting solution to the Kurram conflict, which has plagued the region for over a century.
This was stated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, in a recent statement, highlighting the pivotal role played by various stakeholders in achieving this peace agreement, including the local Jirga, the administration, and security forces.
KP government spokesperson Mr Saif stated that more than 50 sessions of the Grand Jirga were held to bring about this resolution, with sincere efforts by Jirga members that eventually bore fruit.
“The cooperation of the local administration, including the Commissioner and DIG, was also critical in this process,” he said and added that the road closure, a key issue for the local population, was initially implemented to prevent further bloodshed and violence in Kurram.
While the road closure caused significant disruption, Saif clarified that the government was fully aware of the hardships it caused and had taken measures to mitigate the impact.
In this regard, he mentioned that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had dedicated his helicopter for the delivery of medicines and other essential services to the affected regions.
“Over15 tons of medicines were airlifted and more than 700 people were provided air services to ensure their safe transportation,” he added.
Mr Saif also highlighted that with the peace agreement in place, there was now no justification for sit-ins.
He explained that the sit-ins had two primary demands: peace and the opening of the road. Both of these demands had been met, leading to the cessation of protests in the region.
In terms of long-term security, Saif announced that 400 new police recruits would be deployed to secure the main highway, with the support of two platoons of the Frontier Corps (FC) and the establishment of new police check-posts along key routes.
