CDA strengthens urban forestry

ISLAMABAD
In a significant move toward smarter urban management, the Capital Development Authority is leveraging modern technology in its plantation campaign, ensuring that QR-coded trees are continuously tracked and protected, contributing both to ecological sustainability and the city’s beautification.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) DG Environment Awais Tarar, while speaking to a private news channel, highlighted the authority’s innovative approach to urban forestry, emphasizing the use of QR code technology for smart tree monitoring.
He stated that each tree planted across the capital city was digitally tagged and regularly tracked to ensure its survival and growth. “This system allows us to maintain detailed records of every tree and monitor their health, making urban forestry management more efficient and transparent,” he added.
DG Tarar further shared that the Chairman of CDA has issued strict directives to strengthen the tree protection framework. These include not only the adoption of technology-driven monitoring but also strict enforcement against any illegal cutting or felling of trees.
The chairman has emphasized that preserving urban greenery is a top priority and all stakeholders, including field staff and citizens, must cooperate to maintain the city’s green cover.
He also mentioned that CDA has launched awareness campaigns in coordination with local authorities to educate the public about the importance of tree protection. “The chairman has instructed that any violations, including unauthorized cutting or damage to trees, will be met with immediate legal action.
Our QR code system and numbing of every tree ensures accountability and helps us act promptly against defaulters,” DG Tarar said, reaffirming CDA’s commitment to creating a greener, healthier, and sustainable capital city.
