Traders in Jamrud demand immediate restoration of power

KHYBER
A large number of traders staged a protest rally at Bab-e-Khyber, Jamrud on Monday against a prolonged power outage in Ghundi Road Bazaar, demanding immediate restoration of electricity.
They stated that the continued power off persisted for the past ten days, severely disrupted daily life business but also inflected financial loss on the local shopkeepers.
The protest was led by Traders Union President Kashif Iqbal, who was joined by members of the local business community while carrying placards inscribed with slogans in favor of their demand.
Demonstrators voiced strong concerns over continuous electricity suspension, stating that it had caused significant financial losses and brought commercial activities to a near standstill. Addressing the gathering, Kashif Iqbal urged WAPDA authorities to restore electricity within 24 hours.
“We will expand the scope of our protest if immediate action is not taken,” he said, adding that the responsibility for any escalation would lie with the concerned authorities.
Besides the business community students of Commerce College Jamrud were also facing serious academic difficulties due to the ongoing outage, as lack of electricity had hindered their studies and routine educational activities, they regretted.
The local traders warned that failure to meet the demand would lead to an indefinite protest outside the Jamrud Grid Station.
