ANF seizes over 258 kg of narcotics in nationwide operations

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) conducted nine countrywide operations, arresting five suspects and seizing 258.94 kilograms of drugs worth more than Rs244.8 million, an ANF spokesman said on Monday.
He said that one suspect was arrested near Sahu Chowk in Multan, where two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice) concealed in a bag were recovered.
The accused confessed to selling drugs to students of educational institutions, the statement added. In international interdiction actions, ANF recovered 2.5kg of ice hidden inside books from a parcel bound for Riyadh at a courier office in Lahore’s Gulberg area.
At the cargo shed of Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, 765 grams of ice soaked in books were seized from a parcel destined for Dubai.
In another operation at a courier office on Shah Jamal Road, Lahore, 67,200 tablets weighing 6.72kg were intercepted from a parcel booked for the United Kingdom. In domestic operations, 15.6 kg of opium was recovered from a vehicle near Ring Road, Peshawar, and the suspect was arrested.
Near Indus Highway, Kohat, 10.8kg of hashish was confiscated from a car, and two accused were apprehended.
At a courier office on GT Road, Lahore, 20.16kg of Valium tablets were seized from a parcel arriving from Karachi. Near Western Bypass, Hazarganj, Quetta, 198kg of heroin was recovered. In an inter-provincial operation, 2.4 kg of hashish was recovered from a vehicle near Fateh Jang Toll Plaza, Islamabad, and one suspect was arrested. Cases have been registered under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997 and further investigations are underway, the spokesman said.
