Seminar highlights need to check digital intolerance

MULTAN
An awareness seminar on social media intolerance and the digital spread of violent extremism was held at DHA Arena, Multan, on Thursday under the auspices of the Media Cell for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) of the Press Information Department.
The seminar aimed to highlight the social challenges arising from the misuse of social media and to promote responsible digital behavior, particularly among youth. Students and faculty members from Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) and Women University Multan, along with participants from various walks of life, attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, BZU Professor Dr. Muhammad Daud and Women University Professor Dr. Deeba Shehwar emphasized that while social media is a powerful tool for shaping public opinion, its irresponsible use is fueling hatred, intolerance, and extremist tendencies in society. They stressed the need for collective efforts to counter fake news, hate speech, and disinformation.
Manager CVE Media Cell Shehryar briefed participants on government initiatives aimed at preventing violent extremism and enhancing digital awareness.
Shields were distributed among outstanding students by Director Press Information Department Shahid Imran Ranjha and DG PID Tahira Syed.

The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment to continue awareness campaigns and training programs to promote tolerance and responsible digital conduct.
