Peshawar
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Afridi, paid a surprise visit to the Ehsaas Panagah (Shelter Home) located on Pajgi Road, Peshawar, on Friday. During the visit, he personally met and interacted with the residents, inquiring about their well being and the facilities being provided to them. Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Shahab Ali Shah, also accompanied the Chief Minister.
Sohail Afridi inspected the quality of food being served at the Panagah and directed the concerned officials to ensure that the residents are provided with nutritious and hygienic meals.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that currently ten Panagahs are fully operational across the province, providing vital support to those in need, while the eleventh Panagah is in the final stages of inauguration. He reiterated his government’s commitment to establishing new Panagahs in other districts wherever required, emphasizing that adequate funds will be made available on a priority basis to sustain and expand this welfare initiative. “This project reflects the vision of Imran Khan, aimed at ensuring access to basic facilities for the common man,” he remarked, adding that all funds withheld during the caretaker government will be fully restored.
Residents of the shelter requested the establishment of additional Panagahs in Peshawar to accommodate the growing demand. Responding to their request, the Chief Minister assured them that more shelters will be set up at suitable locations. He further directed officials to conduct a formal briefing regarding the proposal to establish a separate shelter home for women, following the demand raised during his visit.
The shelter residents expressed their delight at the Chief Minister’s visit, taking selfies and engaging warmly with him. The Panagah administration briefed the Chief Minister about the facilities being provided, informing him that on average around 100 people avail themselves of free accommodation and meals each day. The shelter primarily caters to travelers, attendants of patients, and daily wage laborers, with special arrangements also available for families.
The chief minister reaffirmed his government’s determination to strengthen this people-centered initiative, ensuring that no financial constraint hinders the smooth functioning of Panagahs across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
