China to challenge USA’ 10% tariff on goods at WTO

ISLAMABAD
Day after President Donald Trump has signed executive order imposing 25 percent taxes on most imports from two of the country’s biggest trading partners Canada and Mexico whereas 10 percent on Chinese goods–Tariffs will take effect from Tuesday–China termed on Sunday the tariffs as sheer violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) Rules and decided to challenge the tax before the Organization.
Trump stated in a social media post he’s taking the action in an effort to address the illegal flow of drugs and immigrants across the United States’ northern and southern borders. Canadian crude oil will be subject to a lower, 10 percent tariff, which could mitigate the effect on U.S. gasoline prices. Midwestern oil refineries are heavily dependent on Canadian crude. The tariff will reportedly remain in place until the national emergency surrounding fentanyl and illegal immigration is resolved. TLTP has learnt.
Foreign media reported on Sunday that reacting to US President Donald Trump’s imposition of 10 percent tariffs on all Chinese products, China has decided to invoke jurisdiction of the WTO as a countermeasure. According to a statement from the Chinese Commerce Ministry, imposition of tariffs by the USA is serious violation of the WTO rules,” the ministry stated, urging Washington to engage in frank dialogue and strengthen cooperation instead of escalating trade tensions.
