Female scientist develops advance Glaucoma treatment

Shazma Imran, a female pharmaceutical scientist and drug inspector with over eight years of experience, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by completing her PhD at the University of Peshawar.
Her research, titled “Self-Assembled Latanoprost-Loaded Nanomicelles as a Drug Delivery System,” introduced a novel approach to treating glaucoma, a disease affecting 70 million people worldwide and a leading cause of irreversible blindness.
Under the supervision of Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) and co-supervisor Prof Dr Fazal Nasir (Chairman, Department of Pharmacy), Shazma Imran developed a unique nano-formulation.
Her innovation offers a more effective, long-lasting treatment for glaucoma, free from the side effects commonly associated with current therapies.
Beyond her academic contributions, Shazma has been instrumental in ensuring the availability of safe and effective medicines in her region through her role as a drug inspector and pharmacist.
Her dedication to public health underscores her commitment to improving the quality of life for her community.
This breakthrough not only establishes Shazma Imran as a leader in pharmaceutical sciences but also brings new hope to millions at risk of losing their vision to glaucoma.
