KP CM warns of nationwide shutdown over Imran Khan’s treatment in jail

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur issued a stern warning to the government, stating that any further mistreatment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder chairman Imran Khan would result in a nationwide shutdown.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Gandapur expressed deep concern over reports from Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, alleging poor treatment in jail, including cuts to his cell’s electricity, restrictions on exercise, and inadequate food provisions.
“I am warning the government that if there are any further complaints regarding Imran Khan’s treatment or visitation rights, we are prepared to shut down the entire country,” said Gandapur, calling on the nation to be ready for large-scale action.
The Chief Minister criticized what he called a “mandate-thieving government” and reiterated that the PTI leadership and workers have remained peaceful but should not be forced into further action.
Gandapur also stated that the current situation has brought committed and ideologically-driven individuals to the forefront of PTI.
“These are the people who will steer the party forward, and we are steadfast in our movement and purpose.” He assured that the party’s unity and resolve would lead to eventual success.
Ali Amin Gandapur cautioned the government about the potential for escalation, stating that any further mistreatment of PTI leader Imran Khan could lead to unprecedented action.
Referring to a possible protest similar to the significant demonstration at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, Gandapur indicated that PTI has a plan for the next steps, from which “there will be no escape for those in power.”
Gandapur emphasized that while PTI’s leadership and supporters have consistently remained peaceful, they will not be restrained if provoked.
“Our leaders and workers have always upheld peace, but do not push us. We are prepared to respond accordingly to those who disrespect Imran Khan’s rights,” he said. Gandapur expressed disappointment in figures he described as “philosophers of cowardice” who, in his view, betrayed PTI’s principles and are now visible on social media and news outlets.
“History will remember these individuals as traitors,” Gandapur asserted, condemning what he called acts of treason, whether by weakness or other motivations. He affirmed that PTI would stay united, its leadership resolved to carry forward its ideals without compromise.
